SPRING CLEANING TIME!! :: BACK UP, DUST AND UPDATE APPS :: BE THE NEAT GEEK!

True, I am procrastinating.  I hate to clean,  I get sense-memory carpel tunnel flare up induced by images of child-me going through the motions -> tedious repetition of  scrubbing floors, bathtubs and table tops <–  but it is that time of year and I am a “traditional” kinda gal!  (Besides, my honey is a neat freak and I am almost inspired by that.  Almost.)

Spring Cleaning = PAIN!!!
Spring Cleaning = PAIN!!!

Spring cleaning (according to our friends @wikipedia) is the period in spring time set aside for cleaning a house, normally applied in climates with a cold winter.
The most common usage of spring cleaning refers to the yearly act of cleaning a house from top to bottom which would take place in the first warm days of the year typically in spring, hence the name. However it has also come to be synonymous with any kind of heavy duty cleaning or organizing enterprise. A person who gets their affairs in order before an audit or inspection could be said to be doing some spring cleaning.  (Or a Politician)

As a true ” Geek” of course,  Spring Cleaning takes on a new meaning to include, not just the traditional dusting about the house and recycling all my old clothing to the Salvation Army, it means clean up/back up of critical systems for life & business!  Inspired by a recent post at Lifehacker.com I thought some of you might appreciate what they say is The Good, the bad and the useless when it comes to doing “stuff” to your PC!

As for me, time to get to that pile of old clothes and start labeling boxes for A/V cables!

Happy Spring Cleaning Geeks!

ADOBE LAUNCHES CS5 :: & THEN ADOBE TV WENT DOWN :: iN-TENSE AS I FOLLOW THE iDRAMA

AS I am watching the “Pseudo Live” launch video on Adobe.com for the CS5 suite, I can’t help but think how great everything looks in the pre-recorded video.  Great production value! There are hundreds of Tweets on the subject as we all listen in for our specialized area of interest…. I heard nothing about transcoding video from Premiere or what the status of the Adobe Media Encoder is, which are the applications I use the most as a streamer of media, followed closely by good ole’ Dreamweaver.

Video looked great, Adobe Mobile Video looked great on the innocuous “Mobile Device” they featured (ahem, iPhone?)… As far as you can tell from a video they produced and mastered in their Adobe CS5 suite… especially with all those “easy to use effects” in Adobe After Effects.  Everything was great…

And then, the live launch video ended.

US RANKS 5TH :: The Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010 :: GEEK RANT

What is holding back the US & the FCC from Broadband progress?  We know what it is, a lot of willy-nilly, self obsessed (i.e. Verizon and AT&T, et al) corporate posturing that really doesn’t proactively lead to positive results! What do we have now, the negative results we CAN see in black and white are, the US falling even further behind in the Global ‘race’ for broadband…

If I have to listen to one of my U.K. colleagues poke fun at my crappy Verizon DSL service here in the U.S./NYC, I am going to move to a country where I can get affordable broadband that isn’t barricaded on all sides by the even crappier through points along my digital path and excessive installation fees!

The pontification of decision makers is totally counter-intuitive to their ability to realize a common goal – the insidious dialog we hear on the subject of Broadband in the US has seriously caused eco-socio-psychological damage to our Nation’s ability to be a technological Global leader.  Here is the what the Wall Street Journal wrote:

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. dropped from third to fifth in the World Economic Forum’s latest rankings of national information technology systems. Sweden topped the rankings, and, to nobody’s surprise, China and India made huge gains.

But, they also say:

The U.S., which fell from third place, last held the first-place spot in 2005. But the report says the U.S. is “one of the world’s most innovative countries,” as reflected by the patents it produces. Usage of technology, particularly by businesses, is high, although the country ranks 72nd in the percentage of people who have mobile subscriptions.

Thank goodness for small favors…
